we must find time to stop & thank the people who make a difference in our lives
In the words of John F. Kennedy, "we must find time to stop & thank the people who make a difference in our lives" and that is what Cassandra M. Foster Foundation is molded upon. Built on those same common principles of helping her fellow man, our founder Cassandra Foster was a teenage mother and a victim of domestic violence. With her struggles and plight, including suffering from a drug addiction, Cassandra eventually landed in prison in the United Kingdom for trafficking for 10 years.
It was there where Cassandra vowed to not only revamp her life for the sake of her son, Darius, but to become a better example for other young mothers across the world. Upon her release in 2002, the mother of two returned to society and her hometown of Newark with a new lease on life, two new grandsons and absolute focus on developing a better relationship with her friends, family and the world around her. From gaining employment with mailing giant, FedEx, to spiritually aligning herself with God as she became baptized at her house of prayer, Beulah Baptist Church, Cassandra found herself not only becoming one with her daughter but becoming a role model the Jersey native never expected. A success story like no other, it was Cassandra's determination and drive that led her to becoming a caterer for ventures such as Over the Top Event Planning the popular Grits & Glamour LLC.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck as Darius was gunned down just 10 years after her release. But as they say, a rose grew from concrete as Cassandra became an activist against street violence and advocating local and state governments for better gun safety. While the mentor herself passed away in January 2021, the Foundation lives on as her daughter Tatisha & her husband Walter Nichols continue to forge a better livelihood not only for young teens but adults as well who are victims of gang and domestic violence. From hosting annual meetings with the Glamour Girls, to running a restaurant Walter still made time to participate in a ten-thousand-pound food give away in conjunction with mayor Donald Shaw and reverend Atkinson during the holidays that has helped over three thousand families. It is Cassandra M. Foster Foundation's endeavor to build a better community.
We are the Cassandra M. Foster Foundation: fostering better for all!
